Gotta give it to these youngsters. I can feel the energy, the zest and the thirst for adventure to the five teams participating for this year’s Cebu Pacific Juan For Fun Backpacker’s Challenge. We got to see them on their official send-off yesterday at Resorts World Manila as they fly to Malaysia, Juan For Fun’s first international destination. It’s their first stop as they head back to Manila then on to exciting stops at Legaspi, Cebu, Camiguin, Cagayan de Oro and Davao for nine days all for free! Isn’t it exciting? ALong the way, they would be guided by their adventure coaches Paolo Abrera, Gretchen Ho, Jude Bacalso, Bogart the Explorer and Luke Landrigan. Let’s get a quick look at the teams.

I’m more of a backpack type of guy when I travel and seldom uses trolley-type bags unless I needed to. The wheeler I had before was a convertible Wenger, the other is a huge World Traveler luggage when I moved to a new location temporarily. Recently I went on a week-long trip up north and brought with me the Osprey Shuttle 22″/40L bag. Now here’s one bag I wouldn’t mind hauling around. Read on why.
Smartphones have definitely redefined the way people travel. Suddenly there are travel apps that help people plan, prepare and documents a trip. Being a tech geek and travel freak at the same time, I utilize these tools to add convenience whenever I travel. Here are some of my favorite travel apps that I use for both my Android and Apple IOS devices.
My passion for Batanes still lingers even if I’m back in Manila. When I received an invite for the opening of the art exhibit “Kaynakman nu Ivatan (Treasures of Ivatan)” I decided to attend since the place is near my area and I’m very much interested on how the artworks look like. The art exhibit is at Galerie Y in SM Megamall. It was a simple opening, nothing fancy and let the art speak for themselves. I got to talk to some of the young and talented members of Yaru nu Artes Ivatan group whose works are displayed, namely Xavier, Jaypee and Javier. They are all based in Batanes but have been in Manila since the first week of April to prepare for this exhibit.
Now here’s a start-up project I think will add convenience to travel in the Philippines. Despite cheap airfares, buses are still the most utilised transport system in the country. Our bus system is still far behind compared to other countries. Passengers still have to visit and line up to bus stations in order to reserve or buy a ticket. PinoyTravel hopes to change that by offering online and mobile booking to some of the major bus companies in the country.
