I recently co-led a group of foreign photographers on a photo tour up north. I noticed a couple of them were wearing HOKA shoes: A lady from the USA, who I learned was a casual runner. Then another guy, from Australia, who is an ultra-marathon runner and used to run competitively around the globe. I got curious about the shoes and asked what they like about them. Both said it was really comfortable, light, and durable. I got interested. So it’s a good thing HOKA was recently launched here in the Philippines.

Last February 15, 2023, HOKA finally opens its first concept store in the Philippines on the 2nd floor of Ayala Malls Manila Bay. I was fortunate to attend the grand opening and see, feel, and try for myself some of the shoes.
The concept store was quite engaging and interactive. The kinetic ceiling lights were captivating. The shoes and apparel were displayed in their respective lifestyle branding, from general fitness, running, hiking, and everyday use. There’s a foot analyzer so they can recommend the right type of shoes for you. A treadmill within a cylinder screen to try the shoes out before buying. Lockers for HOKA Running Club members if they want to leave some of their stuff while running around the Manila Bay area. A lot going on in this store.
French Shoe Technology
Aside from the modern and stylish design of each of these HOKA shoes, embedded in their aesthetics are their well-thought-out and researched development to find the right balance in lightness, cushioning, and durability. Their Clifton series was recognized by American Podiatric Medical Association to be beneficial for foot health. I learned from some nurses and those in the medical field here that some of them use HOKA shoes to help them stay comfortable being up all day walking and standing while on duty.
It’s exciting that HOKA is finally here in the Philippines so Filipino runners, hikers, gym goers, and or casual everyday use for walking or transport users can enjoy HOKA shoes.
