A tough yet handy brick-like speaker yet heavy on sound. The Braven 625s is a ruggedly handsome bluetooth speaker that I recently brought in my 20-day long TravelMindanao trip. It amplified our favourite music while working on our travel updates (or outdoor laundries) and even enrich our movie watching experience from our laptops.
Design and Built
Sporting a compact brick form slightly above 6 inches in length, 2 inches in height and 2.5 in depth, the Braven 625s is easy to hold. Its rubber frame adds to the shock-proof features of the device. I really like the metallic grill design of the speakers. I had the Summit Green design and this speaker is really designed and yearned to be brought outdoors weather for camping or road trips.
On both ends are the speaker interface and buttons. The power switch, volume, BT Pairing button and charging port, audio-in jack on one end. The Battery check button and light indicator, USB Power out, Audio-out jack and lanyard hook on the other side.
The Braven 625s may be rugged but it is not waterproof, but it comes with its own drybag though.
Functions and Performance
Pairing the Braven 625s with other bluetooth device is straighforward. Once both BT devices are open, press the “Pairing Button” on the Braven and it would have a pairing sound that goes with it means it’s now ready to pair. Search for Braven 625s on the device then pair. Braven 625s can remember the last 8 paired device. it can also connect to 2 device simultaneously but only one device can stream music at a time. I was able to pair the Braven 625s with my Adnroid Phone, iPad and Macbook without a glitch.
If you are using a mobile phone and suddenly a phone call comes in, it will prioritise the call and the Braven would act as a speaker phone. Pretty nifty feature.
No Bluetooth device? The Braven 625s comes with a audio cable for direct connection.
The Braven 625s has a 1700mAh rechargeable battery that can last up to 16 hours continues use.
Sound Quality
From switching and turning the device off, the wobbly sound already shows off the richness of sound coming from the Braven 625s. The audio quality is crisp and the bass sound is really full. We used the Braven 625s on a porch of a beach resort and the sound comes out loud and clear out in the open. At full volume it can get a little scratchy on the trebles but something an equaliser on a device can’t remedy.
MultiFunction
The Braven 625s is not only a speaker but acts as a powerbank as well for charging mobile phones and media devices with 5v 1A input. There’s also a led flashlight attachment in case you need some light during camps. Multiple Braven 625s can also be daisy chained with each other.
Verdict
If love music and the outdoors, Braven 625s is an ideal Bluetooth speaker to take on trips. Its sturdy design and construction coupled with superb audio quality makes this a winner. Not to mention the added functions as a powerbank and flashlight in times of need.
